Laneway closure via University Way for crane installation
University of Calgary
The MacKimmie Redevelopment project is a multi-year, multi-phase project that will address major deferred maintenance and space issues on our campus.
Over the last several months, interior work has been done to get the tower ready for major construction. Starting in February, a large crane is being installed for construction work on MacKimmie Tower and will remain on site until construction is complete. During the installation, the laneway between Craigie Hall, TFDL, Murray Fraser Hall and MacKimmie Link accessible via University Way will be closed to vehicles Feb. 10-11, Feb. 23-25 and March 2-5.
There will be no vehicle access to the laneway from Saturday, Feb. 10 to Sunday, Feb. 11, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. while the base of the crane is being installed. Pedestrian access and building entrances and exits will remain open.
While the crane is being installed on the following weekends, there will be no vehicle or pedestrian access to the laneway between Craigie Hall, TFDL, Murray Fraser Hall and MacKimmie Link:
- Friday, Feb. 23 at 6 p.m. through Monday, Feb. 26 at 6 a.m.
- Friday, March 2 at 6:00 p.m. through Monday, March 5 at 6:00 a.m.
Please note the following access closures and detours for the Feb. 23-26 and March 2-5 weekend closures:
- The Craigie Hall northeast building exit will be closed; the southeast exit will remain open throughout
- The west entrance to Murray Fraser Hall will remain open
- Pedestrian access to TFDL will remain open via a barrier-free ramp
- TFDL loading docks will be closed, though emergency exits will remain open
Flag personnel will be on site to direct pedestrians and traffic.
