UCalgary Nursing ranks sixth in Maclean's annual rankings
Maclean’s has unveiled its University Rankings for 2024 and UCalgary Nursing, one of five specific programs ranked overall by the magazine, has placed sixth out of 20 comprehensive Canadian institutions offering nursing education. The rankings, which evaluates 50 participating Canadian universities based on their performance in five categories - students, faculty, resources, student support and reputation – use the most recent and publicly available data and are published in the fall for the previous year.
“The ranking of Canadian nursing schools by Maclean’s is the most referenced domestic source for comparative benchmarking by students,” remarks Dr Catherine Laing RN, PhD, interim dean, UCalgary Nursing.
“Our faculty continues to build our excellent undergraduate and graduate programming to benefit the student experience, our research capacity and productivity and our community impact. We are very proud to maintain a consistent ranking over the past few years.”
Maclean’s has been ranking post secondary education since 1991, but only since 2015 have they included schools of nursing. Other UCalgary programs ranked are Cumming School of Medicine, Computer Science, Haskayne School of Business, Schulich School of Engineering and Werklund School of Education.
In each the five categories, Maclean’s ranks institutions based on 12 performance indicators, allocating a weight to each indicator. While the methodology has been questioned by institutions, students interested in attending a Canadian university regularly use the publication as a measurement tool when making their choice. UCalgary was ranked eighth overall for this year.
